World Cultures
We frequently have theme nights where we learn about other
countries and cultures all around the world so Brown Owl made
us Brownie Passports to record when we have done these nights
and we need to attend three to get the badge.
We learn many things about the countries such as: national anthem;
flag; emblems; dress; homes; animals; food; religion and festivals;
stories; songs; games and crafts.
Some countries we have “visited” are:
Australia - We made Anzac Biscuits and did pretend bush-tucker (with jelly worms
inside kitchen roll trees).
India - For Diwali Brown Owl told us the story of Diwali then we coloured rangoli
patterns and made diyas from coloured clay.
Japan - We celebrated Hina Matsuri, the Japanese Festival of Dolls, which is a special
day to pray for girls’ health and happiness. We had rice crispie cakes and made peg
dolls.
Mexico - We learned about our Cabana (one of the four World Guiding Centres) played
Loteria (Bingo like game) and learned some Spanish phases.
Switzerland - We learned about Our Chalet (one of the four World Guiding Centres)
and did some chocolate tasting (you can’t cover Switzerland without comparing various
types of chocolate).
USA - On Independence Day, we did some firework pictures, wrote to some Brownie Scouts
in New York and made bead and safety pin flags.
