Part of

First Aid
Brown Owl’s sister, Kirsty, is a paramedic and she came in to teach
us all about first aid why it is important. We learned that it is
very important get help as soon as possible and to think of our
own safety too. We practiced putting each other into the recovery
position, and we practiced rescue breaths and chest compressions
on a resuscitation manikin.
We learned about treating burns and scalds, cuts and grazes, and that to stop a nose bleed you pinch the nose with the head tipped forwards because if you tip the head back the blood can run into the throat causing choking. We also learned about what to do if you think a bone is broken and why you would think that.
The best bit was that she had been allowed to borrow an ambulance so we all got to have a look round and see all the equipment that the ambulance service use.
